Police to be more visible as budget set for 1,000 more officers to join the force - Prof. Prasad

Good news as Police officers will be more visible, after it was announced in the 2025-2026 National Budget that 1,000 more recruits will be bolstering the ranks soon.

Deputy Prime Minister and Finance Minister Professor Biman Prasad stated this at the Post Budget press conference saying this means more foot patrols, and more visibility with more police officers around the country.

Professor Prasad says this means there will be 1 police officer to 137 people.

He says the international standard is 1 officer to 300 people, so we would be doubling the international standard.

The Deputy Prime Minister says they are looking at adding 700 to 800 police officers immediately into the system.

He adds they are confident that increased police visibility will lead to the reduction in crime.
