Residents in Lami, Tamavua and Samabula demand answers over dirty water, WAF says flushing is underway

Residents in Lami, Tamavua and Samabula have raised concerns about dirty water and the Water Authority of Fiji has confirmed they are aware of the issue.

WAF says the discoloration may be due to biofilm and slime growth disturbances in the water mains, caused by pressure fluctuations during supply disruptions.

They say their teams are actively flushing the water reticulation system, particularly at network ends, to clear the high-turbidity water.

They further say while water quality tests are conducted at treatment plants, additional testing is being carried out in affected areas.

Residents are advised to boil their drinking water until further notice and updates will be provided as improvements are expected from this afternoon.

WAF says they assure all treated water meets safety standards, but no health risk assessment is currently underway.
